Engagement Opportunities Building bridges between the academic medical center and the surrounding community.

Community Tour

Every day, over 2,000 members of our community come to Wake Forest Baptist Health as patients or participants in our research. How much do you know about these people? Are you familiar with the neighborhoods in which they live?  Do you know the obstacles they encounter in getting to our medical center?  If you are a clinician, what happens to your carefully crafted treatment plan once they leave the hospital?  If you are a researcher, would deeper knowledge about the surrounding community help you engage a broader range of people in your research projects?

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s “Community Tour” is designed to help faculty, staff, and administrators gain an expanded understanding of:

  • Some of the barriers to effective health care delivery
  • Barriers to community members’ participation in research studies
  • A cultural understanding of the patient population
  • The environment in which patients live and its impact on their health

Community Engagement Research Collaborative (CERC)

The Community Engagement Research Collaborative (CERC) is a supportive network of faculty, researchers, community partners and research staff with a shared interest in community-engaged research. This Collaborative space fosters a culture of stewardship and partnership that promotes brainstorming of innovative ideas focused on addressing key barriers to research access and participation. The network hosts virtual monthly meetings designed to foster meaningful dialogue, shared learning, and intellectual exchange among members.

Whether you're just beginning your research journey or bringing years of research experience, your voice and perspective are welcome. These meetings offer a great opportunity to connect with others who are passionate about making research more meaningful, impactful, and community-centric.
