Every day, over 2,000 members of our community visit our institution as patients or research participants. How many of their stories do you know? Are you familiar with the neighborhoods where they live? Do you understand the challenges they face in accessing our institution? If you are a clinician, what happens to carefully designed treatment plans after patients leave the hospital? If you are a researcher, would a deeper understanding of the surrounding community help you engage participants more effectively?
One of the goals of C&SE is to foster connections between the academic medical center and the surrounding community, with a focus on expanding access to healthcare and research for all.
The Community Tour is designed to help faculty, staff, and administrators gain an expanded understanding of:
- Barriers to healthcare access within the local community
- Key factors influencing health, such as access to medical care, housing, transportation, education, food environment, employment, and economic stability
- Community resources and assets that support well-being
- The history of healthcare and research in the local community
