Services

Request a Service

The Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) offers comprehensive support for investigators across the research lifecycle. Services include biostatistical consultation, grant editing, informatics support, regulatory guidance, community engagement strategies, pragmatic trial design, REDCap development, and data extraction. CTSI also provides tailored recruitment strategies, access to experienced coordinators, research funding through its Pilot Program, and educational opportunities such as leadership training, mentorship, and grant writing workshops.

CTSI Services

Biostatistical Support

The Biostatistical Support service provides investigators with research design and interpretation expertise. If you need pre-award or post-award study design or statistical support, the Biostatistical Support team can help. Pre-award support includes hypothesis development, statistical methods, and sample size estimation. Post-award support includes data entry and management, data analysis, interpretation, and preparation of results for publications.

Community and/or Patient Advisory Boards Consultation

Consultation to help establish and facilitate community or patient advisory boards to inform and guide research decisions.

Community-Engaged Research Consultation (Methodology, Study Design, etc.)

Consultation to help design community-engaged research methodologies, including study design, data collection strategies, and community involvement.

CTSI Letter(s) of Support

The CTSI can provide letters of support for federal, industry, and other research grants. All letters must be written by the study team and submitted to the CTSI no later than two weeks before the grant deadline. Investigators may request a consult for their letter of support, if needed.

CTSI Pilot Consultation

The CTSI Pilot Leadership team can meet with investigators who are interested in applying to a CTS Pilot Program funding mechanism including Ignition Funds and Pilot RFAs. These consultations are meant to help investigators ensure their research strategies are in-line with CTSI priorities and to gain feedback on high level aspects of their research idea/project.

CTSI Research Services Consultation

Would you like to meet with one of our research navigators to learn more about the CTSI and what it can do for you? Perhaps you have a research idea but aren’t sure where to start. Our research navigators will meet with you one-on-one to guide you through the process and connect you to the appropriate services.

FDA Support (IND/IDE)

Our IND/IDE navigator is available to facilitate IND/IDE applications by offering in-depth advisory consultations to improve investigators’ ability to meet FDA requirements.

Grant Editing

Our editing specialist provides professional medical editing and writing services and can help with grant preparation and guidance, application resubmissions, and the development of letters of support, biosketches and other supporting documents needed for grant submission.

Identify Community Organization(s) to Partner With

Assistance with identifying and connecting with community organizations that align with your research objectives and target populations.

Implementation Science Shared Resource Consultation

Consultations to provide investigators with guidance on implementation study design; integration of theories, models and frameworks; implementation planning; mixed methods research; stakeholder engagement, and participatory research.

Informatics Consultation

Request a 30-minute consultation, at no-cost, with a member of the Informatics team.

Informatics Data Extraction Request

Our analysts and programmers are available to query clinical data for cohort identification and pull detailed data for approved research projects. Available data includes demographics, diagnoses, procedures, medications, lab results, vitals, and visit details from the medical record. Data extraction is a fee-for-service model.

Informatics Feasibility Request

Request feasibility numbers from the Informatics team. These could be simple counts, NIH enrollment tables, or complex cohort definitions. While some feasibility work is able to be subsidized, more complex requests may require funding.

Informatics Quote

Request a quote for data extraction to be performed by the Informatics team.

Networking Studios

Networking Studios are 90-minute, interactive sessions designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and expand professional networks. These sessions bring together principal investigators, clinicians, and research professionals from various fields to share expertise, explore common interests, and identify opportunities for joint projects.

Through structured discussions and facilitated activities, participants are encouraged to form new connections, spark innovative research ideas, and build collaborative teams that can pursue funding opportunities or advance shared scientific goals. Networking Studios serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary partnership, helping participants broaden their research impact and strengthen institutional and
community collaborations.

Pragmatic Trials Consultation

The Pragmatic Trials Consultancy Service provides investigators and health system leadership with multi-disciplinary expertise for studies at the interface of research and health care delivery. Our mission is to support researchers in designing and implementing pragmatic evaluations that address real-world health system challenges. The service helps its users prioritize pragmatic design features that enhance robust effectiveness evaluation of different care models, interventions, or implementation strategies in routine clinical practice. This includes guidance on selecting appropriate study design types, determining relevant outcomes, and facilitating connections with operational leadership for necessary buy-in and support.

Recruitment Marketing Support (Flyers, Paid Social Media Ads, MyChart Messaging etc.)

Help study teams with recruitment efforts through various free and/or paid marketing services, including MyChart message development, assistance with plain language message writing, access to stock photography and free cobranded templates, QR code creation and paid social media advertising. Review recruitment materials developed by study teams and provide feedback to promote health literacy that will encourage higher engagement.

Recruitment Strategies for Specific Populations

Assistance in developing recruitment strategies tailored to specific populations to ensure participation in your research.

REDCap

The CTSI REDCap team offers project development support, hands-on introductory and advanced classes, and oneon-one consultations to discuss your project and provide feedback. To request REDCap assistance, please refer to the REDCap FAQ webpage.

Research Studios

Research Studios are structured 90-minute sessions designed to provide principal investigators with targeted, multidisciplinary feedback on their research ideas, proposals, or projects. Each session convenes a carefully selected panel of faculty experts, clinical leaders, and subject matter specialists whose expertise aligns with the investigator’s specific research focus.

Facilitated as a guided “virtual roundtable” discussion, Research Studios offer a collaborative environment where principal investigators can receive strategic advice, identify potential challenges, refine research questions, strengthen study designs, and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary partnerships. This service is available to principal investigators at all career stages — from early-career researchers developing their first proposals to experienced investigators advancing complex, multi-site studies.

Study Coordinator

Reliable, experienced research staff are available to assist in the day-to-day management of clinical research studies. Coordinators are available to prepare and submit IRB applications, prepare and maintain regulatory binders, develop study documents, assist in negotiation and preparation of budgets, recruit and screen participants, conduct study visits, collect data, draw and process specimens, and track study finances.

Team Effectiveness Consultation

Team Consultations: Teams may request time with a Team Science Consultant for a series of meetings wherein the team will be guided through activities and discussions that support team success. Teams requesting this service are asked to commit to up to three team meetings with the Consultant.

Individual Consultations: Often, we find ourselves in situations with team members that would benefit from a conversation with an objective consultant. Team Science Consultants are available by request to help you think through options for addressing team issues or generate ideas for your own development as a team member or team leader.

Translation Services

Support with translating research materials, including surveys, informed consent forms, and other documents, to ensure accessibility for non-English-speaking participants.
