On June 11, 2026, the Community & Stakeholder Engagement Research Program (C&SE) hosted an Academic Community Tour, bringing together 24 participants from across 13 departments in both the Winston-Salem and Charlotte regions. Attendees included clinicians, administrative leaders, and research faculty and staff, reflecting strong institutional interest in advancing community-engaged research.
The tour offered a hands-on learning experience designed to deepen understanding of local community assets and strengthen partnerships. Participants visited several community-based organizations—including the Delta Arts Center, Community Care Center, S.G. Atkins Community Development Corporation, and the Intergenerational Center—gaining insight into their history, impact, and opportunities for collaboration.
A highlight of the day was a keynote presentation by Michael Clements on the history of healthcare in Winston-Salem. His remarks provided important context for understanding current health gaps and identifying opportunities for meaningful partnership.
The success of the tour was made possible through coordinated efforts across multiple teams, supporting outreach, participant engagement, technology, and evaluation. Together, these contributions helped create a seamless and impactful experience.
The Academic Community Tour underscores a shared commitment to building authentic, community-centered partnerships that improve health access and outcomes across the region.
