February 11, 2025

The Center for Prevention Science in Child and Family Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Callie Brown, MD, MPH as a Leadership Fellow in the center for 2025 – 2028. The Leadership Fellows Program will nurture the next generation of research leaders and provide opportunities for early- and mid-career faculty to gain experience in program administration, while also advancing our strategy to enhance leadership training and diversity.

Dr. Brown is a General Pediatrician and an Associate Professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Epidemiology and Prevention at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She has expertise in obesity prevention and treatment in early childhood, specifically related to parent feeding practices, child feeding behaviors, family dynamics around feeding and weight, and early childhood growth. Her research has also focused on screening for and addressing social drivers of health to improve health equity.

The Center for Prevention Science in Child and Family Health, one of the newest research centers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the first with a focus on children and families, provides infrastructure and support to explore the complex family systems involved in prevention and child and family health. The long-term goal is to establish a nationally recognized center investigating the influence of family on chronic disease prevention. By collaborating with other research centers and programs across Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the center will further elucidate the importance of the family in health. The initial priority areas of study will be lifestyle behaviors and obesity, social determinants of health, and health services research.
