Open Consultation Hours

Open consultation hours are available to any medical center employee or faculty member who is seeking assistance with project ideas. No appointment is necessary.

Pre-Award / Grant Development

Biostatistical and epidemiological support will be available to faculty for proposal development. Activities may include hypothesis development, statistical methods, sample size estimation, and completing a statistical section for grant applications. Specific examples include:

  • Addressing statistical aspects of study design
  • Selecting best study type (case-control, cohort, trial, etc.)
  • Defining a sampling strategy
  • Estimating sample size and power
  • Developing statistical analysis plans
  • Choosing database platforms
  • Preparing grants (e.g., statistical methods and results)
  • Other pre-award related biostatistical and epidemiological issues

Researchers seeking pre-award support in the preparation for a grant submission may receive free pre-award support on the condition that post-award support be included in the grant budget.


Post-Award / Data Analysis

Post-award activities may include data entry and management, data analysis, interpretation, and preparation of results for publications and presentations. Specific examples include:
  • Choosing database platforms
  • Preparing data for analysis
  • Analyzing existing data
  • Interpreting data and results
  • Preparing manuscripts and grants (e.g., statistical methods and results)
  • Other post-award related biostatistical or epidemiological issues
