If you’ve ever had a paper miscredited, lost a citation because someone spelled your name differently, or struggled to keep your publication list current across a dozen platforms — ORCID iD was built for you. Register here for a free ORCID webinar..
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) provides every researcher with a free, persistent 16-digit identifier that remains with them throughout their career, regardless of name changes, institutional moves, or how many researchers named “J. Smith” are in their field. It functions as a unique identifier for an individual’s scholarly identity.
- Your work, unambiguously yours. ORCID connects your name to your publications, grants, datasets, and peer reviews — no matter where they’re published or who’s searching.
- Less admin, more research. Many journals, funders (including NIH, Wellcome Trust, and the Gates Foundation), and institutions now integrate directly with ORCID, meaning you enter your information once and it flows automatically where it needs to go.
- A living CV. Your ORCID record updates as you publish, making it easy to share a single, always-current link with collaborators, hiring committees, or grant reviewers.
- Global recognition. With over 20 million registered researchers worldwide, ORCID is the recognized standard for researcher identification across disciplines and borders.
For more information about ORCID, there is an upcoming ORCID 101 workshop on June 9th at 3:00 PM EST to learn how a free ORCID iD can simplify your research workflow and ensure you get proper credit for your work. As funders, publishers, and institutions increasingly require ORCID, having and maintaining your record is quickly becoming essential. This session will cover the benefits of ORCID, show how it can save time across funding and publishing processes, and offer practical tips to keep your record up to date. Register here.
