Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Advocate Health have appointed Erich S. Huang, MD, PhD, as Vice President for Research Informatics and Chief Research Informatics Officer, a leadership role focused on strengthening research data science across the academic enterprise.
Dr. Huang will help guide the informatics strategy that supports clinical trials, translational science, precision medicine, and population health research across Advocate Health. Working closely with Dr. Bobbie Byrne and enterprise information technology leaders, he will help advance the infrastructure and partnerships that enable researchers and clinicians to learn from data and translate insights into improved care.
Dr. Huang joins from Verily, where he serves as Associate Chief Clinical Officer for Technology and Informatics. He previously served as Chief Data Officer for Quality at Duke Health and as founding Co-Director of Duke Forge, Duke University’s Center for Health Data Science. A nationally recognized leader in biomedical data science, he has led numerous federally funded research initiatives and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine Leadership Consortium.

Dr. Huang earned his AB from Harvard College and his MD and PhD in Genetics from Duke University. He will report to Dean L. Ebony Boulware, MD, MPH, and serve on both the Advocate Health information technology leadership team and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine senior leadership team.
