Beginning in Summer 2026, the School of Medicine will launch the inaugural year of the Summer Program for Advancing Research in Cardiovascular Sciences (SPARCS), sponsored by the American Heart Association. This immersive research program will provide undergraduate students with intensive training in cardiovascular science, with a strong emphasis on epidemiology, population health, and public health research across the lifespan. SPARCS is distinguished by its integrated focus on outcomes research, health disparities, and translational science, examining how cardiovascular discoveries can be leveraged to inform disease prevention, promote health, and improve outcomes across diverse communities. Faculty members interested in serving as mentors for SPARCS Scholars are encouraged to contact Dr. Claudia Olivier at claudia.olivier@advocatehealth.org.
We are also pleased to announce the launch of a new post-baccalaureate training program designed to support the transition into graduate-level PhD study with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease, dementias, and brain health. The Research and Education in Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementias Initiative for Excellence (READDIE) Program offers a one-year training experience that combines graduate-level coursework with mentored research. The program is open to individuals within three years of completing a bachelor’s degree.
READDIE will admit four trainees annually, beginning in June. Applications are due March 15, 2026, and may be accessed via the QR code below. For questions or additional information, please contact Dr. TanYa Gwathmey at tanya.gwathmeywilliams@advocatehealth.org.
