Dear Research Community,
Most of you are following the recent communication from the NIH, Supplemental Guidance to the 2024 NIH Grants Policy Statement: Indirect Cost Rates, which stipulates that all NIH grants only allow a 15% indirect cost rate, starting this week. The announcement is a drastic departure from our current and past arrangements with NIH and it has caused considerable consternation not only within our own research community, but also across the nation.
Our leadership team is following the situation very closely, and we are leveraging all resources and relationships internally, with our broader Wake Forest University teams, our community of academic organizations in the state, and our national academic community. Many organizations, including the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), are executing actions to protect our research mission, and our leaders are intimately involved in this work.
Over the coming weeks, we will be offering more frequent communications including town halls, to ensure we are hearing your voices and that you receive the latest updates and guidelines on how to engage on media platforms or with the state and federal representatives as situations unfold.
Please continue your important research as before and please let the Office of Sponsored Projects (Sara Stanley - sara.stanley@wakehealth.edu) know if you are contacted by NIH staff at any level about potential delay, discontinuation or reduction in funding based on the topic of your research, or for any other reasons. Our teams will help you stay in compliance with recent directives as things unfold. Please also reach out to your Department Chairs, Center Directors, and the Dean’s Office with questions.
Over the coming weeks, we will be offering more frequent communications including town halls, to ensure we are hearing your voices and that you receive the latest updates and guidelines on how to engage on media platforms or with the state and federal representatives as situations unfold.
To start, I will be holding a Town Hall on Wednesday, 02/19 as well as a future bi-weekly cadence to share updates as developments unfold. Please plan to attend if you are able.
WFUSM Town Hall
