Celebrating Dr. Donald McClain’s Legacy

As Dr. Donald McClain steps down from his formal leadership roles at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, we celebrate his exceptional career and lasting contributions to the field of biomedical research and clinical leadership. Joining us in 2015, Dr. McClain’s vision and expertise have been transformative.

As Director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and Principal Investigator of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), he led CTSI to national acclaim, securing competitive grants and fostering groundbreaking collaborations. His work with the North Carolina Diabetes Research Center has further strengthened partnerships across the state, advancing research and improving health outcomes.

With over 35 years of continuous research funding, Dr. McClain’s influence on science, mentorship, and clinical care will continue to inspire future generations. While stepping down from his leadership roles, he will remain active as Principal Investigator of the NCDRC P30, ensuring his legacy continues.
