Join us for the 2025 William R. Hazzard, MD Translational Research in Aging Symposium on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 8:30AM to 3:30PM ET at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Cancer Center on the tenth floor. A virtual option hosted via Webex will be available.

Keynote Speaker:

David B. Reuben, MD

Dr. Reuben is Director, Multicampus Program in Geriatrics Medicine and Gerontology and Chief, Division of Geriatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Health Sciences. He is the Archstone Foundation Chair and Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Director of the UCLA Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care program. He sustains professional interests in clinical care, education, research and administrative aspects of geriatrics, maintaining a clinical primary care practice of frail older persons and attending on inpatient and geriatric psychiatry units at UCLA. His bibliography includes more than 220 peer-reviewed publications in medical journals, 39 books and numerous chapters.

Ronald I. Shorr, MD, MS

Dr. Shorr directs the Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, one of 20 US centers devoted to improving healthcare for older Veterans. He is also a Research Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Florida.  Dr. Shorr received his MD from Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio, USA) and completed training in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the University of Wisconsin and the William S. Middleton VA medical center (Madison, Wisconsin, USA). In addition, he has completed a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio, USA) and a postdoctoral fellowship in Pharmacoepidemiology at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN, USA).   Dr. Shorr has extensive experience conducting both observational and experimental studies on healthcare safety and quality, particularly in older adult populations. He is the recipient of a current HSR&D Merit, an NIA Clinical Investigator Award (K08), and has been PI and Co-Investigator on several NIH funded studies on fall prevention in hospitalized patients. Dr. Shorr is the recent recipient of an HSR&D Merit award, Nursing Unit Design and Hospital Falls.
