Clinical Informatics Short Course

June 1, 2023

The Wake Forest Center for Biomedical Informatics Presents the Clinical Informatics Short Course: EHR Based Prediction Using R and Python.

This course teaches the basics of clinical risk assessment using logistic regression and deep learning models in R and Python. Students will work with an EHR based dataset of Hemoglobin A1c values to develop their own models. They can also schedule individual meetings with instructors for guidance and feedback.

By the end of the course, students will have gained a basic understanding of developing prediction models for clinical risk assessment.

Example discussion topics include:

  • Overview of medical decision making and potential uses for risk models in clinical care.
  • Issues with the clinical implementation of prediction tools.
  • How to decide when to use regression vs deep learning.
