The Oversight and Outreach Office is independent of the Wake Forest IACUC and IRB and reports directly to the assistant dean for regulatory affairs and research integrity. The goal of the program is to help fulfill the institution's responsibility for ensuring compliance with federal regulations governing animal and human research, and to promote an environment in which research is conducted according to the highest standards.

The primary responsibilities of the program are quality assurance, post-approval monitoring of IACUC and IRB protocol activity, management of adverse events and investigating incidents of noncompliance.

The Oversight and Outreach Office is available to help investigators and their research teams understand and comply with federal regulations in order to promote proactive self-regulation. Educational programs in compliance objectives, best research practices and changes in regulations are provided several times throughout the year.
