Postoperative Opioid Reduction Initiative for Gynecologic Surgeries

Our project addressed the current national opioid crisis. We analyzed postoperative opioid prescribing practices for benign and oncologic gynecologic patients here at WFBMC and used this information to implement a restrictive opioid prescribing guideline, the "Opioid Prescription Reduction Initiative" (OPRI).

  • What inspires you to do research?
Research gives me the ability to delve deeper into topics I am passionate about. It is exciting to piece together unexpected results and to make sense of it.
  • Where do you hope to do your residency and why?
I have been a part of the Wake Forest family since 2014 so although I do not know exactly where I would like to go for residency, I want to find a program that makes me feel as comfortable as I am now, here at WFSOM. I am looking for programs that fulfill my clinical interest, has a welcoming resident environment, and provides me with opportunities to explore my academic passions.
  • Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
In kindergarten I said I wanted to be an ophthalmologist. Now I can not even stand the idea of touching someone's eyeball.
