Now available: Natural Language Processing (NLP) Pipeline

SKAN (Search Kibana Accessible Notes) is now open to the WFBMC Research Community.

October 30, 2020

Kibana LogoWe are pleased to inform the WFBMC Research Community that the first phase of our Natural Language Processing (NLP) pipeline utilizing the Kibana search and visualization platform is now ready to be used!

All CITI trained WFBMC researchers are now able to search and view more than 369,000 de-identified pathology reports via elastic search without needing an IRB approved study. Elastic Search provides a distributed full-text search engine of the de-identified notes and can be queried using any medical concept of interest. The next iteration will include radiology notes, progress notes (and other clinical notes will follow) and some additional NLP features.

SKAN NLP ScreenshotTo use this NLP product, visit nlp.wakehealth.edu within the network (or VPN) and login using your WFBMC credentials. Once you identified reports of interest, you should obtain an IRB approval to access full notes or any other related patient data.

Please email CTSIdata@wakehealth.edu for any questions, requests, or problems. We hope this tool enhances your research!
