NHLBI Extends Aggregate Support

NHLBI Extends Aggregate Support for Physician-Scientists Receiving Institutional and Individual Career Development Awards

To address the challenges physician-scientists face in making the transition into R01 or equivalent independent support, the NIH NHLBI has extended the aggregate number of years of cumulative support for institutional and mentored K awards to 8 years. Aggregate refers to all K-award support for a particular awardee coming from an institutional (e.g. KL2 or K12) award plus a K08 or K23 award.  As per all K08 and K23 FOAs, K08 or K23 support may not exceed 5 years.  Please consult the following funding opportunities for additional information.

PA-18-373  Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (Parent K08 - Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

PA-18-374  Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (Parent K23 - Independent Clinical Trial Required)
