Establishing a Clinically-Relevant Animal Model of Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH) using the Hypertensive Transgenic Rat (mRen2)27

This project was part of a broader series of experiments that aims to validate the (mRen2)27 rat as a viable preclinical model for the characterizing the pathophysiology of intracerebral hemorrhage in the setting of chronic hypertension, chronic low-grade inflammation, and cardiometabolic dysfunction. To realize this aim, this project evaluates the sensorimotor function and vascular morphology of (mRen2)27 rats as compared with control Sprague Dawley rats.

  • What inspires you to do research?
In addition to the great mentoring and professional development opportunities that are afforded by being involved in research, I am most inspired by the prospect of gathering new information that may ultimately improve the quality of care available to our future patients.
  • Where do you hope to do your residency and why?
I hope to continue my medical training at an institution that offers protected time to engage in research.
  • Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I enjoy making music, DJing, and playing the drums. I am also, unofficially, one of the region's top foosball players.
